OAKLAND — A 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after they were shot while driving in East Oakland, authorities said.
The incident prompted a brief lockdown at a nearby high school campus.
The shooting happened about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 47th and Ygnacio avenues. The two people were shot in the lower legs as they were driving on 47th Avenue, police said.
They were able to drive to a hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition.
Police did not say what their relationship was or why investigators believed they were shot. No arrests have been announced.
The shooting happened near Fremont High School. The campus was briefly locked down to ensure student and educator safety, and there were no reported injuries at the school.
Neither of the victims were students at the school.
For information leading to the arrest of a suspect, police are offering up to $10,000 in the shooting. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572.
