The Alabama native was 31 years old.

A family member told TMZ that Harris was taken to a hospital via ambulance but died following a suspected heart attack on Sunday in Jasper, Alabama.

Harris placed sixth in ‘Idol’ season 13 — which aired on Fox in 2014 — giving his takes on Darius Rucker’s “Radio,” John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change,” and Ray LaMontagne’s “Shelter,” among his other performances on the show.

“You sing ‘cause you have to sing, not ‘cause you want to sing,” ‘Idol’ judge Keith Urban told Harris during the competition. ‘And I mean that in the deepest way. And that’s why it’s so believable and real.”

Harris followed his ‘American Idol’ run with a performance with Rucker at the Grand Ole Opry and an ‘Idol’ concert tour with other season 13 contestants.

“I grew up in the church, playing gospel music and singing in the choir. I guess I was a little nervous to go on ‘Idol,’ because I didn’t know if I was prepared. I didn’t have the training,” Harris told AL.com in 2015. “Now, when I get on stage in front of these crowds, it doesn’t matter if I have my eyes closed. I don’t have to keep a camera view. I can calm down, relax and be myself. Ever since I was a little boy, I wanted to see those lights on stage. Every time I get into my bed right after a show, I still can’t believe I’ve been on stage. I’m having a lot more fun than I did on the TV show.”

Harris also moved to Nashville following ‘Idol.’ He moved in with fellow season 13 contestants Sam Woolf and Alex Preston.

The singer remained active on social media before his death, posting a selfie to Twitter on Sunday and sharing a TikTok video of himself performing The Fray’s “How to Save a Life” in late December.

“When I’m behind the microphone, I let everything go and let the music flow through me,” Harris previously wrote in his Facebook bio, per AL.com. “My friends, family, and fans have always supported me and always had my back, and I can never repay them for the love they have shown me.”

Dr. Dre gets Marjorie Taylor Greene busted by Twitter https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2023/01/10/dr-dre-gets-marjorie-taylor-greene-busted-by-twitter/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2023/01/10/dr-dre-gets-marjorie-taylor-greene-busted-by-twitter/#respond Tue, 10 Jan 2023 14:04:31 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/?p=8711007&preview=true&preview_id=8711007 Straight off of Twitter.

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Monday she was locked out of her Twitter account after using music by hip-hop giant Dr. Dre without permission.

The N.W.A. artist born Andre Romelle Young took exception to the right-wing politician using a clip from his 1999 song “Still D.R.E.” in a posting in which Greene warns Washington D.C. will be different now that the Republican party controls the House of Representatives.

“It’s time to begin.. and they can’t stop what’s coming,” she tweeted.

The video shows Greene sauntering through Congress while Dr. Dre’s track plays.

“I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one,” Dr. Dre told TMZ.

Greene later linked to a TMZ article claiming the “Straight Outta Compton” creator’s team complained about the intellectual rights violation to Twitter, which Greene said led to her being locked out of her account.

She told the celebrity gossip site she enjoyed the “creative chord progression” in “Still D.R.E.,” but condemned the musician’s “words of violence against women and police officers, and your glorification of the thug life and drugs.”

Dr. Dre is known for hits including “F–k Tha Police,” in which he performed with N.W.A.

Twitter confirmed online that Greene’s tweet was disabled due to a complaint from the copyright owner. The 48-year-old lawmaker is a loyalist to former President Donald Trump, whose campaign was frequently badgered by recording artists over using their artistic property to promote messaging they found toxic.

An attorney for Dr. Dre reportedly sent a cease-and-desist letter to Greene on Monday stating, “One might expect that, as a member of Congress, you would have a passing familiarity with the laws of our country.”

Cher, 76, sports massive ring from boyfriend Alexander Edwards, 36 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/12/28/cher-76-sports-massive-ring-from-boyfriend-alexander-edwards-36/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/12/28/cher-76-sports-massive-ring-from-boyfriend-alexander-edwards-36/#respond Wed, 28 Dec 2022 14:36:46 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/?p=8699952&preview=true&preview_id=8699952 She’s got him, babe.

Cher took to Twitter on Christmas to share the glitzy engagement-like ring her (much younger) boyfriend gifted her.

“THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER,A.E,” the “Believe” singer, 76, captioned a blurry snap of the pear-shaped diamond.

The tweet, which at the time of publication had racked up nearly 66,000 likes, started triggering congrats from followers and commenters who assumed the singer and her beau were engaged.

To do damage control, Cher reposted the image with some clarification.

“I posted this cause his nails are so cool,” she said of 36-year-old Edwards’ manicure, which featured neon green flames painted on black and could be seen as he held the ring in its box.

The burgeoning relationship between Cher and Edwards came to the public’s attention early last month when the two were holding hands in matching get-ups, People reports.

The Queen of Camp (and memorable social media posts) took to Twitter with a since-deleted message for those judging the May-December romance.

“LOVE DOESN’T KNOW MATH, IT SEES [heart emoji] [heart emoji]️,” she tweeted, according to the outlet.

While appearing on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” earlier this month, Cher said the few men she’s dated who were “hovering around my age … just didn’t like me for some reason.”

“And maybe younger men don’t care if you’re funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things, and you have the strong personality,” continued the singer, whose younger exes included “Top Gun” co-stars Val Kilmer, 62, and Tom Cruise, 60. “I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, okay?”

Edwards’ relationship with the music icon comes just over a year after he and Amber Rose called it quits in August 2021. The model, 39, accused her boyfriend of three years of being unfaithful with at least a dozen people, according to People.

Twitter deletes Donald Trump Jr. tweet mocking Zelenskyy with fake naked Hunter Biden image https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/12/23/twitter-deletes-donald-trump-jr-tweet-mocking-zelenskyy-with-fake-naked-hunter-biden-image/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/12/23/twitter-deletes-donald-trump-jr-tweet-mocking-zelenskyy-with-fake-naked-hunter-biden-image/#respond Fri, 23 Dec 2022 15:03:39 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/?p=8697257&preview=true&preview_id=8697257 A tweet by Donald Trump Jr. that mocked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a naked photo of Hunter Biden was deleted by Twitter on Thursday.

The former president’s son posted the fake image late Wednesday after Zelenskyy received a rapturous reception for his address to a rare joint session of Congress.

The mash-up image depicted a nude Hunter Biden standing next to Zelenskyy as the wartime leader handed over a Ukrainian flag signed by frontline soldiers to Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Twitter removed the image for unspecified violations of its terms of use.

The tweet spotlights the bitter opposition to helping Ukraine defend itself against the Russian invasion in the MAGA wing of the Republican Party.

Don Jr. earlier slammed Zelenskyy as an “ungrateful international welfare queen” in a tweet that remains live.

Despite broad bipartisan support for Ukraine, some of Trump’s far right-wing supporters have railed against the aid, claiming that the U.S. should concentrate on domestic priorities.

Jay Leno shares photo of burn injuries after release from California hospital https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/11/22/jay-leno-shares-photo-of-burn-injuries-after-release-from-medical-center/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/11/22/jay-leno-shares-photo-of-burn-injuries-after-release-from-medical-center/#respond Tue, 22 Nov 2022 13:44:01 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/?p=8670556&preview=true&preview_id=8670556 Jay Leno was released from a California burn center Monday, less than two weeks after he suffered serious wounds in a car fire, the medical center said.

A photo shared by the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles offered the first look at the former “Tonight Show” host since he sustained what his doctor described as deep second-degree burns and possibly third-degree burns to his face, chest and hands.

“I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery,” Dr. Peter Grossman said in a statement.

Leno had undergone one surgery and had at least another scheduled when Grossman gave an update on the comedian’s condition last Wednesday.

The New Rochelle, N.Y., native, 72, was badly burned when a car he was working beneath at his L.A. garage burst into flames on Nov. 12.

Leno will receive further treatment at an outpatient clinic, the burn center said.

“Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes,” the burn center said in a statement Monday. “He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”

Grossman said last week that Leno appeared to avoid nerve damage but called his facial wounds “a little more concerning.”

“Whether there will be remnants of this injury, it’s way too early to tell,” Grossman said at the time.

Leno said he was OK shortly after the incident, which he described as a gasoline fire.

“Just need a week or two to get back on my feet,” Leno said in a statement.

Leno starred on NBC’s “Tonight Show” from 1992 to 2009, then again from 2010 to 2014. A longtime car enthusiast and collector, Leno has hosted the CNBC series “Jay Leno’s Garage” highlighting vintage and uncommon vehicles since 2014.

John Aniston, ‘Days of Our Lives’ star, dead at 89, daughter Jennifer Aniston announces https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/11/14/john-aniston-days-of-our-lives-star-dead-at-89-daughter-jennifer-aniston-announces/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/11/14/john-aniston-days-of-our-lives-star-dead-at-89-daughter-jennifer-aniston-announces/#respond Mon, 14 Nov 2022 16:12:05 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/?p=8662569&preview=true&preview_id=8662569 By Peter Sblendorio

John Aniston, a longtime star of the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” and the father of actress Jennifer Aniston, died Friday at age 89, his daughter announced Monday.

The Greek-born actor played Victor Kiriakis on more than 3,000 “Days of Our Lives” episodes spanning more than three decades, earning him a lifetime achievement honor at the Daytime Emmy Awards this year.

“You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew,” Jennifer Aniston captioned an Instagram tribute Monday featuring photos showing her with her dad over the years.

“I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace — and without pain,” the “Friends” actress continued. “And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now. I’ll love you till the end of time. Don’t forget to visit.”

Aniston appeared on dozens of series and films throughout an acting career that began in the early 1960s, including roles on popular shows such as “Mission Impossible,” “Kojak,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” “The West Wing” and “Gilmore Girls.”

He was best known, however, for his portrayal of the mobster Victor on “Days of Our Lives,” a character he originated in 1985 and continued into this year.

The performance earned Aniston two Soap Opera Digest Awards — for lead actor and outstanding villain — in 1986, and a supporting actor nomination at the Daytime Emmys in 2017.

Jennifer Aniston, who starred as Rachel Green on “Friends,” presented the lifetime achievement Emmy to her father, who didn’t attend the June show.

“This is truly a special moment for me,” Jennifer Aniston, 53, said in a video that aired during the event. “It’s an opportunity to not only pay tribute to a true icon in the daytime television world, but it’s also a chance to recognize the lifelong achievements of a great and well-respected actor who also happens to be my dad.”

Born in Crete, Greece, John Aniston grew up in Pennsylvania and studied theater at Pennsylvania State University before joining the U.S. Navy.

Aniston was married to actress Nancy Dow, who was Jennifer’s mother, from 1965 to 1980. He married Sherry Rooney in 1984.

Justin Theroux, Kaley Cuoco and Naomi Watts are among the stars who shared heart emojis in the comments section of Jennifer Aniston’s post.

“Sending big love,” Watts wrote.

War of tweets erupts between Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, Elon Musk: ‘Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8′ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/11/03/war-of-tweets-erupts-between-rep-ocasio-cortez-elon-musk-your-feedback-is-appreciated-now-pay-8%e2%80%b2/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/11/03/war-of-tweets-erupts-between-rep-ocasio-cortez-elon-musk-your-feedback-is-appreciated-now-pay-8%e2%80%b2/#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2022 13:23:09 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com/?p=8652372&preview=true&preview_id=8652372 Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez mocked Elon Musk’s plans to charge for a blue Twitter checkmark, sparking a war of tweets that continued through Wednesday night.

“Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that ‘free speech’ is actually a $8/mo subscription plan,” the New York City Dem quipped on Tuesday night.

Musk directly responded to the tweet on Wednesday, writing, “Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8.” He even pinned the message.

Musk also posted a meme that said, “You can still use Twitter for free, just without the benefits.”

He followed that up with a picture of a $58 sweatshirt on Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign website.

“Proud of this and always will be,” she responded. “My workers are union, make a living wage, have full health care, and aren’t subject to racist treatment in their workplaces. Items are made in USA. Team AOC honors and respects working people. You should try it sometime instead of union-busting.”

The progressive superstar was taking a dig at Musk’s strong opposition to unionization of auto maker Tesla, where he is CEO.

Ocasio-Cortez, whose personal Twitter account has 13.4 million followers, also capitalized on the promotion opportunity with a link to her merchandise.

Later Wednesday night, she tweeted, “One guy’s business plan for a $44 billion over-leveraged purchase is apparently to run around and individually ask people for $8.

“Remember that next time you question yourself or your qualifications,” the congresswoman added.

Musk’s plan to charge for checkmarks launched a storm of complaints.

“F— that, they should pay me,” horror maestro Stephen King wrote Monday.

Musk has been on the defensive since then, tweeting on Tuesday: “To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8″

The eccentric billionaire changed his Twitter bio to “Twitter Complaint Hotline Operator” from “Chief Twit,” the nickname he chose after taking over the influential company last week.

Aaron Judge bet on himself and made history. Are the SF Giants in play for Yankees slugger in free agency? https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/10/26/aaron-judge-bet-on-himself-had-historic-regular-season-what-comes-next-for-yankees-slugger-2/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/10/26/aaron-judge-bet-on-himself-had-historic-regular-season-what-comes-next-for-yankees-slugger-2/#respond Wed, 26 Oct 2022 15:05:55 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com?p=8645067&preview_id=8645067 Aaron Judge was consistent through the end. The Yankees’ slugger never let himself talk about his free agency during the season. After he turned down an extension offer worth $234 million on Opening Day, Judge made himself focus on the field.

He went out and had a historic season with free agency and the possibility he may never play in the Bronx in pinstripes again waiting at the end. So Sunday night, after the end came in a 6-5 loss to the Astros in Yankee Stadium, Judge said he still wasn’t ready to think about his future.

Not even walking off the field as the final out Sunday night, did Judge think about it as the end, although fan bases in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and other deep-pocket markets could begin to dream about adding the slugger to their lineups.

“Not at all. I tried to go out there and do my job and help this team win and I really didn’t think of it. It happened so quickly. You don’t really have time to soak in,” Judge said. “That’s all gonna run through my agent. I haven’t even thought about the next step yet, but like I said we got we got time to figure it out. I’ve never been in this spot before, so I don’t know how to answer that.”

The 30-year-old was clearly unhappy on Opening Day, when, after he had declined the Yankees’ eight-year extension offer, GM Brian Cashman came out and laid out the details of what was on the table. At the time, it was a deal that would have been worth $234 million including 2022. Judge bet on himself, that he could get more than the annual AAV of $30.5 million.

And it is turning out to be a smart bet.

While some will remember that he slashed .139/.184/.306 with two home runs, 15 strikeouts and a .490 OPS in the playoffs, Judge had a historic season, quieting doubts about his ability to stay healthy and putting up MVP-type numbers — while mostly playing center field.

“Incredible. Just an incredible season and someone that I’ve grown close with and just admire and respect and hopefully we’ll see him in pinstripes for a long time,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I don’t even want to think about the alternative right now.

“But he means a lot to a lot of us in that room.”

His bat would mean a lot in other lineups as well and there are teams who are willing to pay for it.

The Giants, near his hometown of Linden, have been rumored as a landing spot for Judge. The Red Sox, Dodgers and Mets have also been rumored landing spots.

San Francisco has been at the top of the list in terms of teams expected to take a run at Judge. NJ.com’s Randy Miller reported Tuesday that the Giants are “prepared to spend whatever it takes” to sign Judge, citing an anonymous source who had recently met with members of the team’s ownership group.

The source also told NJ.com that the Giants were planning to sign multiple other high-level free agents, expecting that would help sell Judge that they were serious about returning to contention after missing the playoffs in five of the last six seasons — with 2021’s 107-win NL West championship season as the lone outlier.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers’ potential bid made waves Tuesday, too, when MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote that some of the money expected to come off LA’s payroll in the persons of Trea Turner, Justin Turner and others could be turned into a Judge offer. In that event, right fielder Mookie Betts could move back to his initial position as a second baseman.

Judge has always made it clear, however, that he would like to play his entire career with the Yankees — if they are fair with their offer.

Sunday night, he expressed how special playing in the Bronx was to him.

“Getting the chance to wear the pinstripes and play right field at Yankee Stadium. It’s an incredible honor that I definitely didn’t take for granted at any point,” Judge said. “I always check myself pregame when I say a little prayer and I kind of look around the stadium and kind of pinch myself. There were very few individuals to get a chance to run out in that field and do that and play in front of the fans who have supported us throughout my whole, six years here.

“So it was a special time you know, I just kick myself for not bringing home that championship for them.”

He gave them plenty to cheer for, though — especially this season.

He led the majors with 62 home runs and a 10.6 bWAR, and was tied with the Mets’ Pete Alonso with 131 RBI. The 62 home runs broke a 61-year-old American League and Yankees single-season home run record. It is the seventh-most ever hit in a single season in baseball history.

If it is the end of an era in the Bronx for Judge, it was a pretty memorable ride. He debuted in 2016 with a home run in his first big-league at-bat, foreshadowing his time in pinstripes. He may have struggled the rest of that season, but in 2017 he left no doubts that he would be the leader of this team of homegrown “Baby Bombers.”

He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2017, hitting .284/.422/.627 with a then-rookie record 52 homers and 114 RBI. He’d finish second in A.L. MVP voting to the Astros’ Jose Altuve.

In that postseason, Judge led the “Baby Bombers,” to an unexpected postseason run, setting expectations high for another Core Four-like dynasty. It never came. The Yankees have made the playoffs every season since Judge’s rookie year, but never won an AL pennant, let alone a World Series.

Judge was slowed by injuries, like several of his young teammates, until the last two seasons. He missed 45 games in 2018 with a right wrist fracture, 54 in 2019 with a strained oblique and in 2020 he missed 30 of the COVID-abbreviated 60-game season with a calf strain. Since then he has missed just nine games on the COVID injured list.

Judge’s age will also be a factor in his contract. He will be entering his age 31 season in 2023, four years older than most of the players who recently got mega, long-term contracts. He could, however, challenge the top AAV of the game. The Mats’ Max Scherzer’s $43.3 million tops the charts and his now former teammate Gerrit Cole set a Yankees’ record at $36 million.

Kanye West claims George Floyd died by fentanyl; Floyd’s family considers lawsuit https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/10/17/kanye-west-claims-george-floyd-died-by-fentanyl-floyds-family-considers-lawsuit/ https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2022/10/17/kanye-west-claims-george-floyd-died-by-fentanyl-floyds-family-considers-lawsuit/#respond Mon, 17 Oct 2022 14:23:07 +0000 https://www.eastbaytimes.com?p=8637214&preview_id=8637214 Kanye West continues to create outrage.

The outspoken rapper contended in a new interview that George Floyd died of the drug fentanyl, and not from the actions of the Minnesota police officer who was convicted of his murder.

“They hit him with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that,” West claimed on Sunday’s episode of the Revolt TV show “Drink Champs.”

West, 45, made the claim after saying he recently attended the premiere of “Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM,” a documentary by conservative commentator Candace Owens.

Floyd died in May 2020 after officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for about nine minutes. Chauvin was sentenced to 22½ years behind bars last year on murder and manslaughter charges in Minnesota, and 21 years in July after a federal trial.

West’s comments could prompt legal action, civil rights attorney Lee Merritt said Sunday.

“While one cannot defame the dead, the family of #GeorgeFloyd is considering suit for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death,” Merritt tweeted. “Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.”

West was also critical during the interview of comedian Pete Davidson, who dated the rapper’s ex, Kim Kardashian, after she filed for divorce last year. He referenced Kardashian recently saying on the Hulu series “The Kardashians” that her grandmother once raved about having sex in front of a fireplace.

“Kim is a Christian,” West, who has four kids with Kardashian, said on “Drink Champs.”

“On TMZ, I just saw yesterday, they said, ‘Pete Davidson and Kim have sex by the fireplace to honor their grandmother.’ It’s Jewish Zionists that’s about that life, that’s telling this Christian woman that has four Black children to put that out as a message in the media.”

West’s appearance on the show follows a string of controversial behavior by the rapper, whose Instagram account was restricted earlier this month after he allegedly made anti-Semitic comments.

The American Jewish Committee accused West of “Anti-Jewish posts,” pointing to a screen shot of a text message conversation with rapper Diddy in which West allegedly wrote, “Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me.”

Meanwhile, a tweet in which West said he would go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE” was taken down from that platform.

The world’s richest man wants his fans to smell the sweet scent of success with his latest venture, which he refers to as “the finest fragrance on Earth!”

Musk announced Wednesday that his branded fragrance, Burnt Hair, has amassed $2 million in sales after its first day of release to the public.

“Stand out in a crowd! Get noticed as you walk through the airport” is one of the marketing slogans for the product, described as smelling like “repugnant desire.”

The Billionaire business disruptor behind Tesla and SpaceX said that within six hours, 10,000 bottles of his branded fragrance were sold at $100 a bottle.

Musk, who also changed his Twitter handle to “perfume salesman,” boasted that another 10,000 bottles of “Burnt Hair” were sold, reaching a total of 20,000.

The red bottled “omnigender product” is also described as “just like leaning over a candle at the dinner table, but without all the hard work” in a video on the website for his infrastructure services company, The Boring Company. It isn’t expected to ship until next year.

Many of his 108,7 million Twitter followers are having fun with the play on Musk’s name, or even the idea that he’s entering the market with a slew of comical memes and GIFS.

“With a name like mine, getting into the fragrance business was inevitable — why did I even fight it for so long!?” he tweeted. “Please buy my perfume, so I can buy Twitter.”

Musk has been going back and forth about the $44 billion purchase of the influential social platform, which he recently decided to move forward with.
