A pair of stories covered Donald J. Trump’s departure from the White House on Wednesday.
Trump bids farewell to Washington, hints of comeback
“’ Goodbye. We love you. We will be back in some form,’ Trump told supporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland where he received a 21-gun salute as part of a military send-off before boarding Air Force One for his last time as president,” according to the Associated Press.
“Trump was already in Florida, at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, by the time Joe Biden was sworn in just before noon as the 46th president of the United States.”
Trump pardons ex-strategist Steve Bannon, dozens of others
“Trump has already pardoned a slew of longtime associates and supporters, including his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort; Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law; his longtime friend and adviser Roger Stone; and his former national security adviser Michael Flynn,” according to AP. His eleventh hour pardons included the likes of former adviser Steve Bannon, rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black and a man who pleaded guilty to stealing Google trade secrets.
Bannon, 67, was a key adviser in Trump’s 2016 presidential run. He was charged last year with swindling Trump supporters over an effort to raise private funds to build the president’s wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. He has pleaded not guilty.
