Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recognized Joe Biden’s electoral victory on the same day as Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a floor speech where he congratulated the president-elect. Here’s an excerpt:

“So today, I want to congratulate President-elect Joe Biden. The President-elect is no stranger to the Senate. He has devoted himself to public service for many years.

I also congratulate the Vice President-elect, our colleague from California, Senator Harris. Beyond our differences, all Americans can take pride that our nation has a female Vice President-elect for the first time.”

First Californians receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine

“California’s first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine touched down Sunday evening at Los Angeles International Airport, and within hours doses were being distributed to county health departments and hospitals across the state. The first Californians inoculated with the vaccine joined people across the nation taking part in the launch of America’s mass vaccination campaign on Monday. Sandra Lindsay, the director of critical care nursing at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, received the nation’s first shot in a morning media event. … The inoculations marked a pivotal moment in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 300,000 Americans and devastated the economy,” according to a report from this news organization.
