It was quite a league opener for Berkeley on Tuesday night.
The Yellowjackets beat Bishop O’Dowd for the time since December 2008, snapping a 21-game losing streak against the perennial Oakland powerhouse with a 57-55 victory at home to open West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play.
Ollie Miller (19 points), Samir O’Brien (11) and Will Polishuk (10) led Berkeley in scoring as the Yellowjackets improved to 9-3 overall.
O’Dowd, which played a challenging non-league schedule, fell to 4-8.
“Obviously it was a great win for us,” Berkeley coach Mike Hudson said in an email Wednesday. “O’Dowd is always tough and well coached and coming in we know we would need contributions from everyone, which we did.
“Ollie stepped up in the clutch and made some big-time shots for us down the stretch. Collectively our defense was incredible! Played physical, great communication all night and the crowd last night was amazing. Hopefully, we can keep it rolling!”
Berkeley plays host to Castro Valley on Thursday. O’Dowd visits Alameda on Friday.
