The former Palm Springs home of late socialite Magda Gabor boasting a glamorous new makeover has hit the market for $3.8 million.

Bursting with color and original fabrics and wall coverings, the revamped three-bedroom, 3,441-square-foot home with four bathrooms is the vision of designer Tracy Turco.

“It’s such a unique property, and then Tracy takes it to a whole other level,” said Conrad Miller of Avenue 8, the co-listing agent.

Property records show Turco and her real estate developer husband, Jerry, picked up the home on a nearly two-third-acre hilltop lot in Little Tuscany in August 2020 for $1.74 million. The couple is known for buying and renovating neglected mid-century properties like a 1961 home by William Krisel listed for $1.149 million and the retro boutique hotels the Art Hotel, Tiki Hotel, Cheetah Hotel and Deco Palm Hotel.

Turco puts her spin on the 1964 abode while incorporating furnishings and treatments that are original to the eldest and only redhead of the famous Gabor sisters.

As Southern California News Group previously reported, Gabor bought the home in the late 1960s at the urging of her countess mother. The property had been the site of star-studded parties and even fashion shoots during her tenure.

County records indicate the property remained in her name and that of her sister Zsa Zsa through separate trusts until August 1998, when the property sold for $440,000.

According to the listing, the sisters “separately occupied the estate for over 30 years.”

A painting of Magda Gabor, who died in 1997 at 81, hangs on the foyer’s wall.

Her first initial is etched on the home’s mirrored walls, including the one that runs the length of the combined living and dining room with its hidden closet. The mirror reflects the veranda.

With its pink overhang and striped black and white valance, the veranda overlooks the mosaic-tiled pool and mountains beyond.

Views also abound from the breakfast room nearest the kitchen, with its custom-trowelled ceiling and original Hungarian rotisserie, to the primary bathroom. It has dual vanities, a shower and a soaking tub. A curtain closes the bathroom from the rest of the primary suite’s bedroom, with its sitting room/office, dressing room, makeup room and two walk-in closets.

Other Gabor-era originals include a grand piano, a dining room table and crystal chandeliers.

The patio table belonged to Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Brandon Holland of Avenue 8 shares the listing, which is available turnkey.

Fred Karger, the first openly gay and Jewish candidate to seek the Republican nomination for president of the United States in 2012, has put his longtime Laguna Beach weekend home on the market.

The asking price is $3.495 million.

A white exterior with periwinkle trim, three decks and a Dutch door painted a cheerful orange distinguishes this three-bedroom, 1,451-square-foot cottage with three bathrooms.

Just a stone’s throw from the steps to Victoria Beach, the house — recently updated by Los Angeles-based interior designer James Lumsden — boasts panoramic views of the ocean and Catalina Island.

One of its many vantage points is the combined living and dining room with its open-beam ceiling. A fireplace anchors the well-appointed space, which opens to the eat-in kitchen with custom blue cabinets, a tiled backsplash, Corian countertops and an under-counter wine cooler. The living area also extends out onto a dining deck.

Upstairs, there’s a larger deck off the primary bedroom whose en-suite bathroom features a tiled shower. There’s also a walk-in closet.

All of the home’s furnishings are available to buy separately.

The house has direct access to a two-car garage and a driveway, a plus in this neighborhood where parking is hard to come by. As a result, the famed public beach known for its “Pirate Tower” and a circular man-made pool doesn’t get crowded.

Records show Karger bought the property in June 1996 for $455,000.

“After 26 amazing years, I’ve decided to sell my house,” he posted on Instagram and explained in the comments that he planned to spend “more time in New York and San Diego.”

Chris Tebbutt of Compass holds the listing. The house at 155 McAulay Place will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 7-8.

Karger, 72, is an LGBTQ activist and retired Republican strategist who worked on presidential campaigns for Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. Although he never held elective office, he ran for president to change attitudes within his party about gay rights and marriage equality.

That campaign, which ended after more than two years in June 2012, has been documented in the 2014 film “Fred” and, very recently, a 4-minute video produced by History UnErased. The nonprofit education organization brings LGBTQ history in the U.S. into the mainstream classroom.

Karger writes about the experience in his 2011 memoir “Fred Who? Political Insider to Outsider” and the upcoming “Undaunted,” both co-authored with Steve Fiffer. The one-time presidential hopeful also has another forthcoming book, “World’s Greatest Crasher,” co-authored by Sam Eichner, that documents the places where Karger has unexpectedly popped up, from the Oscars stage to White House parties.

Locally, he first became known for an unsuccessful campaign to revive the landmark gay bar the Boom Boom Room after its closure in 2007. He continues to advocate for marriage equality and LGBTQ causes nationwide.

The asking price is 24% more than the $18.15 million he paid for the property in February 2022.

Completed in 2014, the four-bedroom 10,460-square-foot residence with eight bathrooms sits on over 2 acres at the end of a cul-de-sac.

“This magnificent reimagined estate provides every amenity and feature desired for the ultimate in equestrian living,” the listing reads.

The grounds include a self-contained guest house, a four-stall barn with a tack room and a private riding arena.

Double-door entry doors open into the primary residence’s two-story foyer with a staircase and balcony. Beyond is an eat-in gourmet kitchen with a large center island, which flows into the great room with vaulted and beamed ceilings.

A fireplace and sliding glass doors are features of that space where the Stallone family recently appeared in a Christmas video post on Instagram.

In the video, Stallone — the 76-year-old star of the “Rocky” and “Rambo” franchises who now portrays an enterprising mafia capo in exile on the Paramount+ series “Tulsa King — stands with his arms over two of his daughters’ shoulders and wife Jennifer Flavin showing off their fuzzy slippers.

Dirt.com reports the house has a mirrored gym, a home theater and a wine cellar with a tasting room.

The spacious primary suite boasts two walk-in closets and an ensuite bathroom with a steam shower and a soaking tub. A private balcony overlooks the resort-style backyard with its pool and spa, cabana and outdoor kitchen.

Fruit-bearing citrus and avocado trees add to the landscape.

Jordan Cohen of Re/Max One holds the listing.

Stallone and Flavin plan to spend their time at the couple’s $35 million Palm Beach mansion, TMZ reports.

A Spanish-style estate once home to the legendary film director Howard Hawks is for sale in Palm Springs for $5.995 million.

Dubbed “Casa de Plata,” the so-called “House of Silver,” dating to 1949, has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and 6,200 square feet of living space.

Tall palms, artificial turf and a water feature welcome guests to the walled and gated estate. It sits on nearly two-thirds of an acre in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood.

Records show it last traded hands in 2010 for $2.1 million.

“This kind of stunning estate is rarely available in the area,” said Scott Histed, luxe director at Bennion Deville Homes and the listing agent. “It is ideal for hosting lavish parties and yet the well-crafted home still feels homey.”

Double-entry doors open onto a spacious great room with high wood-beamed ceilings, glass walls, and star and cross-shaped Saltillo flooring that runs inside and out. The great room accommodates several seating areas, including one huddled around a fireplace with a chandelier above.

A door opens into the large gourmet kitchen featuring a walk-in appliance pantry, a peninsula island with seating, and a breakfast area that connects to the family room.

The primary suite boasts a large bathroom with an open shower and a separate steam sauna in period tile. Like all of the bedroom suites in the house, it features a large closet, an adobe-style fireplace and direct outdoor access.

Nearly every room offers views of the garden and the San Jacinto Mountains.

In the resort-style backyard, a large pool, spa and casita — complete with a kitchen and bathroom — take center stage. An attached two-car garage completes the offerings of this historic home.

Scott Histed of Bennion Deville Homes holds the listing.

Hawks, who died in 1977 at 81, was a celebrated filmmaker whose career began in the silent era. Although he never won an Oscar for a particular work, he received an Honorary Academy Award as “a master American filmmaker whose creative efforts hold a distinguished place in world cinema” in 1975.

Jon C. Hopwood of the Internet Movie Database called Hawks “unique and uniquely modern in that, despite experiencing his career peak in an era dominated by studios and the producer system in which most directors were simply hired hands brought in to shoot a picture, he also served as a producer and developed the scripts for his films.”

Add in his eye for talent.

Hawks gave Lauren Bacall, Montgomery Cliff and James Caan their first big break. He turned John Wayne into a superstar with some of his best roles, beginning with “Red River” in 1948, Hopwood wrote.

There are too many movies to list here. Still, his credits include “Bringing Up Baby,” “His Girl Friday,” “Sergeant York” (for which he received a Best Director Oscar nod), “To Have and Have Not,” “The Big Sleep,” “Monkey Business,” “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and “Rio Bravo.”

Former Mayor Pro Tem Tito Ortiz and longtime girlfriend Amber Nichole Miller bid farewell to their Huntington Beach home with one last celebration, their wedding.

Images posted to Miller’s Instagram page show the couple tied the knot on November 11, less than a week before the Huntington Harbour home sold for $4 million, an 11% markdown from the last asking price.

The 3,887-square-foot Tuscan-style home with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and 20-foot vaulted ceilings initially hit the market in December 2021 for $6 million. It dropped the list price several times before it settled at $4.5 million in October.

It was built on close-knit Davenport Island in 2006, the home backs onto a 50-foot dock with space for a yacht and a Duffy, which listing agent Baron Bershaw of Compass said was a big attraction for the unidentified buyer represented by Elmer Gonzales of Park Group Real Estate.

“The whole benefit and reason why they bought it was so they could walk out of their house and get onto their boat and go,” Bershaw said by phone. “Also, it’s a cool little waterway. People paddleboard and swim in the water. And when Christmastime comes, everybody is out on their Duffys. You have stuff going on in your backyard all the time.”

Inside the two-story house, hand-laid limestone, wrought iron railing and custom woodwork adorn the space.

Other features include a wood-paneled office, a formal dining room with built-in china cabinets and a 300-bottle temperature-controlled wine cellar with a rolling library ladder.

The kitchen has high-end appliances and a large center island with seating. It opens to the family room.

Upstairs, there are two primary suites with balconies.

Property records show Ortiz bought the home in 2008 for $3.25 million. The mixed martial arts fighter who briefly dabbled in politics once shared it with ex-adult film star Jenna Jameson, the mother of his twin sons. Ortiz, who split from Jameson after seven years, was granted full custody of their boys. He also has an older son from a previous relationship.

Although he and Miller plan to move their family to Florida, his connection to the Surf City house raised its profile. A publicized estate sale brought out curious looky-loos and shoppers alike. The showings were also well attended and resulted in two offers.

“Ultimately it came down to the activities you can partake in with the ownership of the home, but (the ownership) was an exciting detail, especially for Huntington Beach,” Bershaw said. “This is arguably the biggest celebrity in Huntington Beach.”

Reality TV couple Heather and Terry Dubrow have parted ways with their 22,000-square-foot Newport Coast home dubbed “Chateau Dubrow” in an off-market deal for $55 million, making it O.C.’s most expensive sale of the year.

An LLC, registered in California, conceals the buyer’s identity.

County documents show “The Real Housewives of Orange County” star and the “Botched” surgeon purchased the nearly three-quarter-acre property in July 2013 for $4.18 million and built the home.

“RHOC” documented the construction of the lavish spread, whose features include a doorbell to summon Champagne service, a temperature-controlled wine wall in the dining room, and an eat-in kitchen with two islands that opens to the family room.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors extend the great room to the backyard terrace with a pool and spa.

Other highlights include a mirrored gym, a 21-seat movie theater, twin offices with hidden bathrooms and bars, and a 400-square-foot closet.

The couple shared their former home with their four children, which “RHOC” fans will recall were represented by birds in a sizeable etched window that became a point of contention.

“With two kids at college, we’ve been thinking about our next move,” Heather Dubrow told Entertainment Tonight, which first reported the sale on Oct. 21.

“Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” siblings Josh and Matt Altman of Douglas Elliman Realty represented the couple in the deal. Southern California News Group reached out to the Altman Brothers, but they declined to comment.

Before closing that deal, property records show the Dubrows paid $14 million for a two-bedroom, 5,254-square-foot penthouse in Century City. They were represented by “Selling Sunset” agent Heather Rae El Moussa of The Oppenheim Group, who posted the deal on Instagram.

E.T. reported that Season 17 of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” will feature the nearly five-month process of finding and negotiating the penthouse. In the same article, Heather Dubrow dropped hints about her future with the O.C. series.

“I think that as a New Yorker transplanted to L.A., dragged down to Orange County, I’m migrating home,” she told E.T. “Let’s see what happens there.”

A California Monterey-style home once owned by late Academy Award-winning actress Donna Reed is for sale at $4.175 million in Palm Springs.

Sited on a three-quarter-acre lot in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood, it’s made up of the main house and a separate guest house for a total of five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 4,341 square feet of living space. The residence designed by architect Charles O. Matcham dates to 1934.

Reed, who died of pancreatic cancer in 1986 at 64, was not the original owner. Palm Springs Life reported in 2007 that she owned the home from 1966 to 1970.

According to the listing agent, the current owner has made many improvements since picking up the property. Records show it last sold in 2008 for $2.75 million.

Highlights of the main house include a kitchen with a walk-in pantry and a freestanding butcher block island. There’s an oversized butler’s pantry, a formal dining room, and a sunroom that the seller uses as sleeping quarters making for an unofficial sixth bedroom.

A fireplace anchors the living room, which offers views of the front and rear garden.

Follow the wood banister staircase to the second floor and encounter the primary suite. It has a fireplace, balcony and a spa-like bathroom with a custom dual vanity.

Outdoors, there’s a backyard pool and shaded lounge areas. A barbecue area with bar seating, a fruit orchard and a lush garden add to the offerings.

Bill Convey of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California holds the listing.

Reed had many memorable roles in film and TV. She appeared opposite James Stewart as George Bailey’s wife in Frank Capra’s fantasy holiday film “It’s A Wonderful Life” (1946) and won a best-supporting actress Oscar for her portrayal of a prostitute in the romantic war drama “From Here to Eternity” (1953).

The longtime Hidden Hills home of late sportscasting legend Vin Scully is on the market for $15 million.

Comprised of a two-story mansion, guest house and guest apartment, the property—dubbed “Home Plate” and completed in 2003—has 11,615 square feet of living space with seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Its nearly 2-acre lot also boasts a tennis court, pool and spa and putting green.

Scully, a Hall of Famer who called games for Dodgers fans in Brooklyn and Los Angeles for 67 seasons, lived in the chateau-style residence in sought-after Ashley Ridge with his second wife, Sandi, since 2009. The beloved broadcaster died in August at 94. He was preceded in death by Sandi, who died of complications of ALS in January 2021 at 76.

Their daughter, Cat Scully of Compass, is co-listing the property, an “honor” she called “bittersweet.”

“Our home was full of so many beautiful memories, love and laughter, but as my dad used to say, there is a season and a time for everything in life,” she said in a statement provided by Compass. “This was his wish, with the prayer that now a huge chapter of our family story had come to an end, the proverbial torch in our home would be passed to the next family to continue making beautiful memories.”

That’s evident in the 3D virtual tour and MLS photos, which show spaces that marry French country style with family portraits and baseball memorabilia. Especially in the primary residence’s two offices.

They include a wood-paneled office library with walls of built-in bookcases and a fireplace — one of many inside and out. The other office has walls of built-in cabinets.

Elsewhere in the home are a screening room, a formal living room, a wet marble bar, and an informal bar in the family room that flows into a casual dining area and then the oversized kitchen with double islands and stainless steel appliances.

There’s also a butler’s pantry.

Glass and wrought-iron doors separate the formal dining room from the wine room.

The second-floor primary suite has a kitchenette, two bathrooms and closets, and a private balcony that overlooks the garden and far-off vistas.

Other amenities include coffered ceilings,  stone cast fireplaces, custom window coverings, stone and oak floors, and glass walls that open to an al fresco dining patio.

The grounds also hold an outdoor barbecue area, lush lawns, water features and fountains, and a six-car garage.

Mimi Bladow of Compass shares the listing.

A Palm Springs midcentury-modern home inextricably tied to newlyweds Elvis and Priscilla Presley as their “Honeymoon Hideaway” is on the market in all its 1960s glory.

The asking price is $5.65 million.

Architect William Krisel designed the four-bedroom, five-bathroom, 4,695-square-foot home for developer Robert Alexander of Alexander Construction Co. fame and his family. Completed in 1960, it sits on a nearly half-acre lot in the Villa Las Palmas neighborhood alongside other well-maintained Alexanders of the era.

Alexander and his father, George, founded the residential development company instrumental in transforming Palm Springs into a modern architecture enclave. The company ended abruptly in 1965 when a chartered plane carrying the Alexander men and their wives crashed in the San Jacinto Mountains shortly after takeoff, killing all eight people, including the pilot on board.

One of the most-publicized Alexander homes was the one Robert Alexander shared with his wife, Helene, and their young daughter, Jill (who was not on board the plane). Look magazine declared it the “House of Tomorrow” in an eight-page spread in 1962. But it was the King of Rock and Roll and his bride who put the home on the map.

They honeymooned there in 1967, earning it the nickname “Honeymoon Hideaway.”

Past listings show the Elvis theme lived on. Movie posters, novelty furnishings and a pink canopy bed graced the house until it traded hands in December 2020 for $2.6 million.

The new owners’ interest lay in the architecture.

According to listing agent Marc Sanders of Compass, they set out “to keep the house in its original form, but make it comfortable to today’s standards, with updated bathrooms and kitchen and mechanicals.”

Though primarily a home renovation, they restored several original features. That included tearing out a fifth-bedroom addition and reopening the garage, returning it to a carport. The kitchen, which opens to the family room, was duplicated down to the circular center island and equipped with modern cabinets, counters and appliances.

Terrazzo floors, fireplaces and the swimming pool also got a refresh.

As Sanders put it, “When somebody walks in the house, we want the focus to be on the architecture.”

The Alexander residence features a wide-winged roofline over four circular pods. Beyond the towering wood-carved entry doors, the house reveals floor-to-ceiling glass, clerestory windows and a low-slung upholstered sofa that hugs the living room’s curved stone wall.

A ceiling-mounted fireplace with a floating hearth anchors the space.

Glass walls separate the dining platform from the terrace’s large swimming pool.

A curved glass wall wraps the upstairs primary suite. Inside the large combination bathroom and dressing room are original built-in wardrobe closets and a circular tub. A private balcony allows for “a discrete observation deck,” the listing reads.

All bedrooms are ensuite, and two share an outdoor terrace.

Want to see more? Modernism Week-goers can be the first to see the newly renovated Alexander house on the $65 “House of Tomorrow Home Tour,” through Oct. 16. Tickets are available at go.modtix.com.
