The Cantabella Children’s Chorus will present “Winter’s Light” in concert at 1 and 4 p.m. Dec. 10 in Pleasanton’s Valley Community Church.

Many wintertime and holiday favorites are lined up to celebrate the season. “Northern Lights,” an arrangement of “Deck the Halls in 7/8,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and many international carols sung in different languages and fun pieces such as “The Twelve Days of Christmas Confusion” and “The Piglets’ Christmas” will be featured along with a variety of other songs to please everyone in the family.

Cantabella Children’s Chorus welcomes incoming Artistic Director Clement Cano, who joined this season. With his well-rounded musical experience, Cano brings many novel ideas to the chorus.

Cantabella training choirs will sing at 1 p.m., and performance choirs will sing at 4 p.m. Get tickets for $20 online at cantabella.org or for $25 at the door Dec. 10. Admission is free for ages 18 or younger. The church is at 4455 Del Valle Parkway in Pleasanton.

Black Diamond Ballet to perform ‘Nutcracker’ Dec. 10-18

The Black Diamond Ballet troupe will open “Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at El Campanil Theatre, where the show will run till Dec. 18. The Christmas tradition features dancing in a land of sweets, magic, toy soldiers and more. This will be the troupe’s 10th annual community production of the timeless classic.

The ballet is choreographed by Artistic Director Sharon Sobel Idul and geared for all ages. A special sensory-friendly performance will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 17. ‘Humbug!’ returns Dec. 16 with Ballesteros performing

Frank Ballesteros will revive his role Dec. 16-24 as Ebenezer Scrooge in “Humbug!” The Madd Hatters Players production will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16-17 and Dec. 19-23, at 2 p.m. Dec. 17-18 and at 1 p.m. Dec. 24.

Ballesteros will also direct the production, an area tradition since 1976. The performances will be at at 300 G St. in Antioch. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for ages 7 to 12. For more information, call 925-584-9265.

See Edwards Solo Show at Delta Gallery through Friday

The Jake Edwards Solo Show continues through Friday at the Delta Gallery Community Art Center, 2485 Sand Creek Road, #128, in Brentwood. Edwards specializes in large metal designs. Chorus to perform holiday songs and parts of ‘Messiah’

Celebrate the holiday season with the Brentwood Community Chorus, which will perform the second of two concerts Dec. 18. Under the direction of Susan Stuart, the Brentwood Community Chorus will perform holiday seasonal songs such as “Sing Noel,” “English Carol Medley,” “Keep on Ringing the Bell” and several choruses from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” with a string quartet. The Celebration Ringers Handbell Choir will also join in the festivities!

The concert will be at 2 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Brentwood Community Center (35 Oak St. in Brentwood). Admission is $10 per person for ages 13 and older, free for age 12 and younger. Tickets are available online at brentwoodcommunitychorus.com or at the door.

The chorus is participating in a recycling fundraiser. Bring your used sneakers or athletic shoes and used or empty inkjet cartridges to the performance. Collection bins will be available in the lobby of the Community Center.

Catch Diablo Women’s Chorale holiday concerts Dec. 10-11

Diablo Women’s Chorale holiday concerts are set for 3 p.m. Dec. 10-11 at a new venue, Walnut Creek United Methodist Church at 1543 Sunnyvale Ave. in Walnut Creek.

To buy advance tickets, go online to diablowomenschorale.org. Preconcert tickets are at a discounted price of $28 online, and tickets at the door on concert days are $33 for adults, $18 for students.
